The Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder

Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder

Today’s post is on The Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke. It is the first in her Hannah Swensen series. It is 436 pages long and is published by Kensington. The cover has cookie jar in the center with blood on it and the cookies. The intended reader is someone who likes cozy mysteries and very real characters. There is very mild foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this book. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Hannah Swensen already has her hands full, between dodging her mother's attempts to marry her off, and running Lake Eden, Minnesota's most popular bakery, The Cookie Jar. But when the Cozy Cow Dairy's beloved deliveryman is found murdered behind Hannah's bakery with her famous Chocolate Chip Crunchies scattered around him, Hannah sets out to track down a killer. The more Hannah snoops, the more suspects turn up. This is one murder that's starting to leave a very bad taste in Hannah's mouth, and if she doesn't watch her back, her sweet life may get burned to a crisp.

Review- A good story to start a series with interesting characters that have good growth potential. The story is slow to build with the setting and characters taking the center stage. Then the murder happens and it is shocking and I felt like Hannah felt when she discovered the body. The mystery moves from there with the characters being the center of everything. From Hannah’s relationship with her family to the way the neighbors all interact with each other, it was all the point of the series and the murder(s) were there to add the flavor. I did figure out who the killer was before the big reveal but it was still interesting to see Hannah put all the pieces together. I am curious about where this series is going to go, so I am looking forward to the next one.

I give this book a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I borrowed this book from my local library.
