Tomie

Today's manga post is on Tomie by Junji Ito. It is 750 pages long and is published by Viz Media. The cover is black with white lines outlining Tomie with a red blood drop in the center. The intended reader is someone who likes horror on a cosmic scale. There is mild foul language, mild sexuality, and lots of violence. The story's perspective changes with every chapter has it is really a string of short stories around Tomie and what she does. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the manga- Tomie Kawakami is a femme fatale with long black hair and a beauty mark just under her left eye. She can seduce nearly any man, and drive them to murder as well, even though the victim is often Tomie herself. While one lover seeks to keep her for himself, another grows terrified of the immortal succubus. But soon they realize that no matter how many times they kill her, the world will never be free of Tomie.

Review- A interesting collection from Ito where the reader follows different people over the course of many years and their interactions with Tomie. Tomie is not just a beautiful woman, she is something much more dangerous and evil. She drives people mad and she enjoys the madness. The art is good with the horror that follows Tomie's every step on every page. The reader is drawn to Tomie, just like the characters, into her mystery and her desire for horror and blood. I would have liked more information about Tomie herself, like has she always been around or was she a normal person once? I know that some readers like the total mystery of Tomie but I wanted more about her. Maybe that was Ito's plan, if so then it worked on me. I would recommend this manga to horror fans and of course, fans of Ito.

I give this manga a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Love of Kill, Vol. 5

Today's manga post is on Love of Kill, Vol. 5 by FE. It is 162 pages long and is published by Yen Press. The cover has Chateau and Ryang-Ha on looking rough. As it is the fifth in the series, you need to have read the first four volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes action series with mysteries at the heart of the story. There is mild foul language, no sex, and action violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close following Chateau and Ryang-Ha mostly. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the manga- After turning himself in to Donny—the man pulling all the strings—Ryang-Ha is forced to confront his murky past. With little chance of escape, his only hope is to sow chaos among Donny's men, presenting the perfect opportunity for Chateau to break in and come to his rescue! But will she make it to Ryang-Ha in time, or will she end up another puppet on Donny's volatile stage?

Review- Ryang-Ha is taken to the mysterious Donny, who seems to known the person who Ryang-Ha got his name from. The group is full of broken and dangerous people and they have questions for both Ryang-Ha and Chateau. Chateau is only getting more confused by Ryang-Ha and his actions, not that he is helping by explaining himself. This volume is mostly action with little plot or character growth but that didn't bother me as I think that this volume is setup for future growth in both plot and character. Chateau and Ryang-Ha are reunited at the end with enemies all around them and the only one they want alive is Chateau. Good hook for the next volume, so I'm looking forward to seeing what is going to happen next.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Land of the Lustrous, Vol. 2

Today's manga post is on Land of the Lustrous, Vol. 2 by Haruko Ichikawa. It is 192 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. The cover has Phos and friends on it. As it is the second volume in the series, you need to have read the first volume to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes stories with deep plots with lots of philosophy. There is no foul language, no sex, and action violence. The story is told from third person close of the main character, Phos. There Be Spoilers Ahead

From the back of the manga- UNDER THE SEA
Phosphophyllite is determined to find a job more suited Cinnabar's many talents, but with no easy answers to be found on land, the quest turns seaward. Ventricosus the sea snail suggests that the creatures who live there may have the clue Phos is looking for. But the sea is hardly the optimal environment for a gemstone—will Phos make it back to shore in one piece?

Review- Phos has the sea creature with her and is listening to what it has to say. So Phos takes it back to the sea, against the orders of sensei. She learns about the past of the planet and how the Lustrous come into being and what the Lunarians are, maybe even what they want. But the sea creature has plans for Phos and almost kills her. But Phos survives and is not afraid of continuing her quest. The philosophy in this series is starting to come into focus. Questions about humans and humanity are starting to be asked of the characters and the readers. I am very curious about where the series is going and what Phos is going to learn.

I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Moriarty the Patriot, Vol. 5

Today's manga post is on Moriarty the Patriot, Vol. 5 by Ryōsuke Takeuchi and Hikaru Miyoshi (Illustrator). It is 208 pages long and is published by Viz Media. The cover has Albert Moriarty on it pouring a glass of wine. As it is the fifth in the series, you need to have read the first four volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes Sherlock Holmes and re-telling's of classic stories. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this manga. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the manga- William James Moriarty and Sherlock Holmes meet again on a train back to London, and a dead body is discovered in a locked passenger cabin. With John Watson named as the prime suspect, Sherlock challenges Moriarty to a contest of who can solve the murder first. Will Sherlock be able to clear Watson’s name? Back in London, a state secret that only the royal family is privy to has been stolen and MI6 is tasked with retrieving it, lest the whole empire fall into ruin! Meanwhile, Sherlock is visited by the king of Bohemia, who asks him to cover up a recent scandal…

Review- The volume starts with a locked room mystery and Watson is the one blamed for the murder. Sherlock and James both know that he is innocent and they make a bet about who can prove it first. Then we jump into the re-telling of Scandal in Bohemia and Irene Alder. She is wonderful and unsettles Sherlock so well. I like spending half time with Moriarty and half with Sherlock. It's fun to see how Moriarty's plans influence what cases Sherlock has and how Sherlock solves the cases, impresses Moriarty. Good manga and I look forward to the next volume.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Love of Kill, Vol. 4

Today's manga post is on Love of Kill, Vol. 4 by FE. It is 162 pages long and is published by Yen Press. The cover has Chateau on it with a gun to her head. As it is the fourth volume in the series, you need to have read the first three volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes intense, josei stories with morally gray characters. There is some foul language, no sex, and violence in this manga. The story is told from third person of the different characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the manga- After her boss is nearly assassinated, Chateau is confronted by the assailant. He’s going after Ryang-Ha, and he means to enlist her help—willing or otherwise! Torn between Ryang-Ha and her loved ones, Chateau starts to collapse under the pressure, longing for an easy way out…

Review- This volume picks up right where the last volume ended with Chateau's boss being stabbed and Ryang-Ha finding him. The volume is a game of cat and mouse with the killers, who want Ryang-Ha, and are willing to do anything to get him. With everything happening, Chateau is under a lot of stress and she is at the end of her rope. But Ryang-Ha is not going to lose her after finding her again. The volume ends with a cliff hanger and I can't wait to see what is going to happen next.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Something's Wrong With Us, Vol. 6

Today's manga post is on Something's Wrong With Us, Vol. 6 by Natsumi Andō. It is 160 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. The cover has Nao and Tsubaki on it. As it is the sixth volume in the series, you need to have read the first five volumes to understand the plot. There is mild foul language, mild sexuality, and no violence in this manga. The intended reader is someone who likes twisty, thriller romances with morally grey characters. The story is told from third person close of the main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the manga- A New Spark
Nao is more nervous than ever as her body begins to accommodate a new life, so she copes by focusing on her beloved wagashi . She throws herself into making Shimaya’s warabi mochi in order to help Jojima earn back the acclaim for his family’s treasured confection. Meanwhile, Tsubaki senses that Nao is hiding something from him, but decides not to press her about it. When they visit Yuko, Tsubaki lays bare his feelings, and Nao is touched by his sincerity. As the couple grows closer, she thinks she can take a chance on his love, but trouble is never far on the horizon for these two lovers bound by a dark past…

Review- This volume has some real bombshells in it. From Nao being pregnant to who Tsubaki and Nao's real fathers are. There is just to much going on. The grandfather knows that not only is Tsubaki not is his grandson but that he has a granddaughter out there somewhere. Nao is really feeling the pressure now. The mother-in-law is starting to really get crazy and she may try anything to keep her hands on the shop. As the plot goes, it just keeps getting better with very twist. I cannot wait to read the next volume.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Moriarty the Patriot, Vol. 4

Today's manga post is on Moriarty the Patriot, Vol. 4 by Ryōsuke Takeuchi and Hikaru Miyoshi (Illustrator). It is 208 pages long and is published by Viz Media. The cover has John Watson on it. As it is the fourth in the series, you need to have read the first three volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes mysteries, re-imaging of classic literature, and intense plots. There is mild foul language, no sex, and action violence in this volume. The story is told from third person close of characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the manga- Mycroft Holmes gives MI6 a top secret mission to put an end to the Third Anglo-Afghan War. William believes Colonel Moran, who once fought in the war, is the right man for the job and asks Albert to recruit the colonel. But will old memories from Moran’s past hinder his efforts to assist the mission? Meanwhile, more dark figures lurk in London’s nobility, spreading further chaos in the country…

Review- This volume is about one of Moriarty's men and it is very interesting to see his background and what made him join Moriarty. I like seeing this story lines that focus on Moriarty's men and why they would join him and do things that will be seen as bad. Moran is shown to be both a good agent and a good leader. But of course Moriarty knows who he chose to join him on the quest. I hope that we see Holmes in the next volume but this was a good volume.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Captive Hearts, Vol. 05

Today's manga post is on Captive Hearts, Vol. 05 by Matsuri Hino. It is 200 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Megumi and Suzuka on it. As it is the fifth volume in the series, you need to have read the first four volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes magical, shojo love stories. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this volume. The story is told from third person close of the main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the manga- Convinced that finding the jewel of the Dragon God will release the Kuroishi family from their curse, Megumi and Suzuka travel to China together. Will they succeed in their mission and finally break the captive spell?

Review- A good conclusion to a series. Suzuka and Megumi are bound and determined to finally break the curse on Megumi's family. In doing so, they discover that others have been cursed by the Dragon God and why. The Dragon God fell in love with a girl from the village but villagers feared her and got themselves cursed. Suzuka wants to free everyone. This ending is good with all threads from previous volumes and the Dragon God's reasons are explained. A good, solid shojo series, it does not break the mold but it does deliver what the reader wants from the genre. I would recommend this series and the author.

I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

The Promised Neverland, Vol. 4

Today's manga post is on The Promised Neverland, Vol. 4 by Kaiu Shirai and Posuka Demizu. It is 92 pages long and is published by Viz. The cover has Emma, Norman, and Ray on it. As it is the fourth volume in the series, you need to have read the first three volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes shonen manga, tense horror plots, and heist stories. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this volume. The story is told from third person close of the main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the manga- Life at Grace Field House is good for Emma and her fellow orphans. While the daily studying and exams they have to take are tough, their loving caretaker provides them with delicious food and plenty of playtime. But perhaps not everything is as it seems…
Just as the plan to escape the orphanage is coming together, Mom viciously breaks Emma's leg and reveals that Norman's days are numbered. Emma and Ray will do anything to save their friend from being eaten by the demons, but can they outsmart their devious foe?

Review- With the escape plans to close, the plot is getting more intense. Mom is on to them and she knows that Emma wants to save everyone. So Mom makes the first move by breaking Emma's leg and moving Norman's due date up. By doing these things, Mom hopes to trap the children in despair and stop them from making different plans. But Ray and Emma will not be stopped so easily. This series just keeping getting better with how intense the plot and the ticking clock behind our characters. There is a good cliffhanger in the volume, so I am very excited to read what is going to happen next.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

The Human Target, Volume 2

Today's post is on The Human Target, Volume 2 by Tom King, Greg Smallwood (Illustrator). It is 232 pages long and is published by DC Comics. As it is the second collection so you need to have read the first collection to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes classic style noir mysteries with superheroes. There is mild foul language, implied sex, and action violence. The story closely follows Chance until the end. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the dust jacket- Christopher Chance has 12 days to solve his own murder! Superstar writer Tom King and acclaimed artist Greg Smallwood continue the noir examination of a classic DC character!
Christopher Chance has made a living out of being a human target—a man hired to disguise himself as his client to invite would-be assassins to attempt his murder. He’s had a remarkable career until his latest case protecting Lex Luthor when things go sideways.
An assassination attempt Chance didn’t see coming leaves him vulnerable and left trying to solve his own murder, as he has 12 days to discover just who poisoned him. After discovering clues, the death of a Green Lantern and a torrid romance with Tora Olafsdottir, a.k.a. Ice, DC’s top bodyguard may meet his match when Beatriz da Costa, otherwise known as Fire, steps into his life. Only time will tell what secrets this flaming femme fatale might hold, and just how badly The Human Target might get burned.
Human Target is a hard-boiled, gritty story in the vein of classic detective noirs, told by bestselling and critically acclaimed creators Tom King and Greg Smallwood!

Review- An excellent end to an excellent run. Chance is running out of time to find his killer. He knows all about the how and the why behind his poisoning but the who is still eluding him. The ending is very satisfying with all questions being answered, the real bad guy is punished, just not camera, and Chance must face the end his own way. The art continued to be standout and really make this series. King does a wonderful job with the story and I would like to read more from him and see him return to the character of Christopher Chance, in another storyline. I would strongly recommend this collection.

I give this collection a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I borrowed this collection from my local library.

Rosemary’s Baby

Today's post is on Rosemary’s Baby by Ira Levin. It is 308 pages long and is published by Signet. The cover is red with a baby pram in the center. The intended reader is someone who likes horror novels. There is foul language, sex and sexuality, and mild violence in this novel. The story is told from third person close of Rosemary. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Suppose you were an up-to-date young wife who moved into an old and elegant New York apartment house with a rather strange past.
Suppose that only after you became pregnant did you begin to suspect the building harbored a diabolically evil group of devil worshippers who had mastered the arts of black magic and witchcraft.
Suppose that this satanic conspiracy set out to claim not only your husband but your baby.
Well, that's what happened to Rosemary... Or did it...?

Review- This is an interesting classic horror novel. The story of Rosemary and her pregnancy is a journey for both her and the reader. The novel starts months before she gets pregnant and goes until after she gives birth. The writing is spare, very plain style, and that suits the novel. It helps with the more surreal aspects of the story and makes them more palatable. The scene when Rosemary gets pregnant is very dreamlike and that helps with the scene. The mystery of what is real or not, what did Rosemary experience is anything, that pulls both the reader and Rosemary along. We are on a journey together to discover Rosemary's baby. If you are interesting in classic horror then you should read this one but if you're pregnant, wait.

I give this novel a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I borrowed this novel from my local library.

Queen's Quality, Vol. 6

Today's manga post is on Queen's Quality, Vol. 6 by Kyousuke Motomi. It is 192 pages long and is published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Fumi and Kyutaro on it. As it ist the sixth in the series, you need to have read the first five volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes urban fantasy stories, slow burn romance, and shojo manga. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild action violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of the main character, Fumi and Kyutaro. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the manga- Kyutaro and Fumi get a taste of just how formidable the Silver Sea Snake is, and so they set out to the Holy Ground of the Old Byakko Clan in order to get stronger. However, they’re in for an unwelcome surprise when they find out what this mysterious clan has in store for them!

Review- Fumi and Kyutaro are invited to come to the Byakko house in order to train. Of course, it is more than just that. The Byakko want to test Kyutaro, to see if he is a good consort for Fumi. There is some good plot movement in this volume with more about what happened when Kyutaro's parents died and maybe what happened to Fumi during that time too. Fumi continues to surprise everyone around her with personality and force. She is more than the Byakko thought and maybe more than they can handle. This continues to be a strong series with interesting characters. I look forward to reading the next volume.

I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

The Human Target, Volume 1

Today's post is on The Human Target, Volume 1 by Tom King and Greg Smallwood (Artist). It is 192 pages long and is published by DC Comics. The cover is a target with the main character in the center. The intended reader is someone who likes mysteries with superheroes. There is mild foul language, mild sexuality, and violence in this comic. The story closely follows the main character. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Christopher Chance has made a living out of being a human target--a man hired to disguise himself as his client to invite would-be assassins to attempt his murder. He's had a remarkable career until his latest case protecting Lex Luthor when things go sideways.
An assassination attempt Chance didn't see coming leaves him vulnerable and left trying to solve his own murder, as he has 12 days to discover just who in the DC Universe hated Luthor enough to want him dead by slow-acting poison. And the prime suspects happen to be...the Justice League International?

Review- A wonderful noir mystery set in the DC universe. Christopher Chance is a man of many faces and voices. He puts his life on the line so his clients can be safe. But when he poisoned and has only twelve days to solve his own murder, Chance is in over his head. Especially when the prime suspects are superheroes. There is so much to like about this story from the plot to the characters and most especially the art style. It looks very traditional  like it was made using colored pencils, making the drawing look so good. I'm looking forward to the next volume and seeing how chance is going to solve his murder and who did it.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I borrowed this comic from my local library.

Land of the Lustrous, Vol. 1

Today's manga post is on Land of the Lustrous, Vol. 1 by Haruko Ichikawa. It is 200 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. The cover has some of the characters on it. The intended reader is someone who likes complicated, dystopian stories. There is no foul language, no sex, and some action violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of the the main character, Phosphophylliye. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the manga- Searching for Purpose
In a world inhabited by crystalline life-forms called The Lustrous every unique gem must fight for their way of life against the threat of Lunarians who would turn them into decorations. Phosphophyllite, the most fragile and brittle of gems, longs to join the battle. When Phos is instead assigned to complete a natural history of their world, it sounds like a dull and pointless task. But this new job brings Phos into contact with Cinnabar, a gem forced to live in isolation. Can Phos's seemingly mundane assignment lead both Phos and Cinnabar to the fulfillment they desire?

Review- This is an interesting start to a series. The world that Phos lives in has ended but life has continued in a very unusual way. So to understand the world she is given the task of making a natural history. The Lunarians are interesting villains as they are a total unknown expect that they want the Lustrous, for some reason know only to themselves. The art is good and the action scenes are interesting and quick. I look forward to reading the next volume.

I give this manga a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Queen's Quality, Vol. 5

Today's manga post is on Queen's Quality, Vol. 5 by Kyousuke Motomi. It is 192 pages long and published by Shojo Beat. The cover has Kyutaro on it. As it is the fifth volume in the series, you need to have read the first four volume in the series, to understand the story. There is no foul language, no sex, and mild violence in this manga. The intended reader is someone who likes urban fantasy, magical girl, and shojo manga. The story is told from third person close of the two main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the manga- Fumi and Kyutaro delve into the depths of bug handler Ataru’s mind and try to save him, but Fumi has been given the tough task of killing the Black Queen within her! As Fumi discovers the truth about the Black Queen and gains new power, what price will she pay in return?

Review- Fumi and Kyutaro are trying to save Ataru but Fumi needs to discover more than just what happened to him but why does she have a Black Queen. Fumi does not want to kill the Black Queen but understand her. Fumi thinks that the Black Queen is doing an important job for her and Fumi wants to know what is. Of course the people who want Fumi are using this time to try and come for her. The emotional depth in the story is getting more interesting, as Fumi learns why some people have the power to become bug handlers or cleaners. I look forward to the next volume.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

Overdue

Today's fiction post is on Overdue by Elizabeth Spann Craig. It is 244 pages long and is was self-published by the author. As it is the second novel in the Village Library Mysteries, you need to have read the first one to know who the characters are. There is no foul language, no sex, and very mild violence in this novel. The cover has Fitz the cat on it. The intended reader is someone who likes cozy mysteries. The story is told from first person of the main character, Ann. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- Carmen King is a busy woman. Not only does she sit on the library board and dabble in the Friends of the Library, but she juggles quite a few relationships at once. Apparently, this doesn’t go over well with at least one of her boyfriends—Carmen is found dead at the bottom of the library staircase.
Librarian Ann Beckett not only finds Carmen’s body, but finds herself entangled in Carmen’s mysterious death as she sets out to learn why Carmen’s death, from the killer’s perspective, was overdue.

Review- A cute second volume in a cute cozy series. The mystery is good but I guessed the killer before the end. The library setting is fun. The best thing about this volume is the character growth of the secondary characters. We get more with them than the first volume and they have started to become more than just background for Ann and the mystery. A good read and I am interesting  in reading more.

I give this novel a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I borrowed this novel from my local library.

Checked Out

Today's post is on Checked Out by Elizabeth Spann Craig. It is 242 pages long and is published by the author. The cover has a cute orange kitty sitting on a book with some blood spots on the book. As it is the first in the series, you can start here. The intended reader is someone who likes cozy mysteries. There is very mild foul language, no sex, and no on page violence. The story is told from first person perspective. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the novel- There are no renewals when you’re permanently checked out.
When librarian Ann Beckett finally reluctantly agrees to being set-up on a blind date by one of her over-eager patrons, she figures that the worst that could happen would be that the two of them wouldn’t hit it off.
Little did she know that she’d be stood up…because her date was murdered.
With the help from her patrons, Ann tries to find out who might be responsible in the small town of Whitby before more residents are permanently checked out.

Review- A very cute start to a cozy series. Ann is a local librarian in a small town where there is not much crime. That all changes when she finds her blind date dead in his home. The mystery continues to grow with the bodies and the murderer is very clever. The strongest point to the novel are the characters, they are fun and interesting. Ann, our main character, is interesting with her own story and desires. She is, of course, very curious about what is happening in her town. The kitty on the cover, Fritz, very cute and he adds to the cozy ambience. The mystery was fun and I look forward to reading the next one.

I give this novel a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I borrowed this novel from my local library.

Love of Kill, Vol 3

Today's manga post is on Love of Kill, Vol 3 by FE. It is 164 pages long and is published by Yen Press. The cover has Ryang-Ha on it looking dangerous. As it is the third volume in the series, you need to have read the first two volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes morally grey character, intense action, and slow burn love stories. There is mild foul language, no sex, and violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of the two main characters. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the manga- After Chateau is captured by Hou, Ryang-Ha sets off to track him down and take her back. Pistol in hand, he confronts her captor, who’s more than happy to accept his challenge. But Hou’s brought a knife to a gun fight, and Ryang-Ha’s never been one to show mercy. However, with Chateau’s whereabouts yet unknown, Hou has all the leverage he needs…

Review- An old co-worker of Ryang-Ha has kidnapped Chateau with the intention of drawing him out to kill them both. But Ryang-Ha is not going to just lie down and die and either is Chateau. Then when Chateau's connection to Ryang-Ha is revealed to her boss, she has to make a deal. Ryang-Ha is willing to make any deals, just as long as he stays close to her. The volume ends with Ryang-Ha being framed for a murder and the real killer is lose and unknown. I look forward to seeing what is going to happen next.

I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.

My Killer Vacation

Today's post is on My Killer Vacation by Tessa Bailey. It is 290 pages long. The cover is green and pink with the couple embracing in the center and the title above dripping blood. The intended reader is someone who likes rom-com's with a little murder. There is some foul language, sex, and mild violence in this book. The story is told from duel perspectives of Taylor and Myles. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the book- It was supposed to be a relaxing vacation in sweet, sunny Cape Cod—just me and my beloved brother—but discovering a corpse in our rental house really throws a wrench into our tanning schedule. Now a rude, crude bounty hunter has arrived on the back of his motorcycle to catch the killer and refuses to believe I can be helpful, despite countless hours of true crime podcast listening. Not to mention a fulfilling teaching career of wrangling second graders.
A brash bounty hunter and an energetic elementary schoolteacher: the murder-solving team no one asked for, but thanks to these pesky attempts on my life, we're stuck together, come hell or high tide.
I'm just here to do a job, not babysit an amateur sleuth. Although… it is becoming less and less of a hardship to have her around. Sure, she's stubborn, distracting and can't stay out of harm's way. She's also brave and beautiful and reminds me of the home I left behind three years ago. In other words, the painful hunger and protectiveness she is waking up in me is a threat to my peace of mind. Before I sink any deeper into this dangerous attraction, I need to solve this murder and get back on the road. But will fate take her from me before I realize the road has been leading to her all along?

Review- A cute romance about opposite attracts. Taylor wants to have some fun and break out of her every day life. Myles just wants to forget the past and solve the case. But together they have something more. The plot is not unique but it's fun and the sex scenes are not too many for those who would like to skip them. The characters are fun, cute, and drive the story nicely. I like the relationships with the family members like their brothers. If you like cute romances with a mystery twist, then you should try this book.

I give this book a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I borrowed this book from my local library.

Something's Wrong With Us, Vol. 5

Today's manga post is on Something's Wrong With Us, Vol. 5 by Natsumi Andō. It is 160 pages long and is published by Kodansha Comics. As it is the fifth volume in the series, you need to have read the first four volumes to understand the story. The cover has the two main characters on it. The intended reader is someone who likes mysteries with a touch forbidden romance. There is some mild foul language, sex, and mild violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close of the main character, Nao. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

From the back of the manga- Two Fates Under One Tragic Moon
Nao may have managed to infiltrate Kogetsuan by marrying Tsubaki, but can she discover the truth behind her mother's death without her true identity being exposed? At the invitation of one of the shop's junior employees, Jojima, she pays her first visit in years to the staff quarters where her mother raised her. She feels a natural affinity for this helpful young man, but it turns out the secrets of his past are just as terrifying as her own...

Review- Nao continues to play with fire as she gets deeper into Tsubaki's life and the politics of the tea house. Even worse, she is being manipulated by a co-worker, who is being paid by her mother-in-law. Her mother-in-law will stop at nothing to drive Nao from the house but Nao will not stop until she knows the truth. The mystery and the personalities of the characters are so interesting and at times very disturbing. But Tsubaki seems to really love Nao, as least as much as he can. There is be some great starting drama in the next volume and I cannot wait.

I give this volume a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
